DISASTER RELIEF

 HURRICANE HARVEY AND ITS AFTERMATH

The evacuees from Harvey have arrived. They are from the most recent, severe flooding in Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange, Texas.

The need for mental health interventions is great. Your help is needed and will be useful.

Editorial note: In a brief visit on Friday, 9/1/2017 at 8:30 pm, there were reports that mental health assistance was scant at best, and perhaps non-existent. I was well received by Emergency Medical Technicians and a volunteer Nurse Practitioner, who had identified numerous persons in dire need of assessment. No one asked about my training in Red Cross Disaster Mental Health, though there were Red Cross personnel on site. I got the impression that the EMT were in charge and coordinating services. Given these observations, I think any one who wishes to help will be similarly, warmly received. And I think your help will do good.
