Educated at Rice University and The University of Texas at Austin, I have practiced the art and science of psychology for 30 years in a variety of clinical and educational settings in Fort Worth. I have learned much from the children, teenagers, adults and families that it has been my privilege to know and to share part of their journey.
With training and experience in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy and play therapy, I focus on the psychology of optimal functioning, a.k.a. "Positive Psychology", and its applications to wellness and personal growth. Specialties include treatment of anxiety and depression, life transitions and losses, and Asperger's Syndrome. Services include individual therapy, life coaching, spiritual direction and school consultation.
Volunteer leadership roles in the community and church have helped me deeply appreciate the interconnectedness gained in shared mission. A frequent speaker and trainer, I have presented to numerous professional organizations and conferences as well as to educators in public and private schools. Since 2001 my focus has been on experiential workshops which integrate principles of positive psychology with creativity and spirituality.
Identifying, nurturing and expressing our strengths leads to a more engaged, meaningful life. Therapy is a creative, collaborative process. This collaboration creates space and possibility for change. It is about finding the right questions to ask, as well as enhancing hopefulness, courage, insight and optimism.

I arrived in Texas five years ago after training in Ohio and Minnesota. My early experiences in the field of psychology involved primarily career and personal counseling in several College and University settings in the Midwest. I have had significant teaching, research, presentation, and outreach experience. My dissertation on career counseling was funded by the National Career Development Association.
I have worked for Vericare (a national leader in geripsychology in Long Term Care Settings) for over four years, currently serving as the Clinical Operations Manager for North Texas. In this leadership role, I am able to enjoy both the Clinical and Organizational Development/Consulting branches of our field. I also do limited private practice work in Ft. Worth which allows me to effect a wider variety of clients and the intersection of their psychological and work/school-related development needs. I believe there are few things as personal and significant as one’s vocational identity and work performance.
The warm welcome and mentoring I received from FWAPA early on when I arrived in Texas represents the true spirit of the organization’s mission. Where, how, and why psychologists gather makes a considerable difference in the strength of our field and the services we impart on our customers. My experiences with FWAPA have nurtured me as an early career psychologist. It is my privilege to serve the FWAPA community by embracing and promoting the true spirit of our mission as a leader for our group. |
